About

Transforming Greek rural agriculture through an integrated digital platform combining e-commerce, AI-powered training, and sustainable innovation.

DASK is an innovative project accelerating digital transformation of Kythera and Antikythera's rural agricultural communities through an integrated platform that bridges traditional farming practices with cutting-edge technology. By combining a unified digital marketplace with AI-powered training through the Jackdaw GeoAI Chatbot, DASK empowers local farmers to promote renowned products including olive oil, honey, wine, rusks, herbs, and fava while simultaneously developing authentic agritourism experiences. The platform addresses the critical digital skills gap in Greek agriculture, where only 6.7% of farmers have training in agricultural technology compared to a European average of 25%, enabling farmers and AKIS actors to navigate digital transformation while preserving agricultural heritage and expanding economic opportunities across generations.

Our Vision

Our Vision

At DASK, we aspire to create a future where Greek rural communities thrive through digital innovation that respects and enhances traditional agricultural heritage. We believe in fostering economic viability, sustainability, and intergenerational knowledge transfer by harnessing the transformative power of AI and digital platforms. Our vision is to enable farmers and AKIS actors to capture full value from their products, develop diverse agritourism opportunities, and preserve invaluable traditional knowledge, creating a replicable model for rural digital transformation across Mediterranean regions while reversing depopulation trends and empowering agricultural communities to thrive in a modern economy.

Our Approach

Our Approach

Our approach integrates participatory design with agile development to create technology that truly serves rural community needs. At the heart of DASK are two breakthrough innovations: a unified digital marketplace leveraging the PoliRuralPlus E-market platform for agricultural products and agritourism, and the Jackdaw GeoAI Chatbot serving as an intelligent training assistant customised for local agricultural knowledge. We embrace the "digital terroir" concept, ensuring our solutions reflect and enhance Kythera's unique agricultural characteristics rather than imposing standardised approaches. By engaging farmers, cooperatives, and ministry partners from inception through a Digital Champions network and co-design workshops, we continuously refine our platform to ensure it meets diverse needs while preserving traditional practices, driving sustainable innovation, and promoting environmental stewardship through precision agriculture guidance.

DASK

Project Complete!

The DASK project has officially reached its conclusion, delivering a fully bilingual digital marketplace and AI-powered training centre for Kythera and Antikythera. Best of all, this is not the end: the platform remains in active use with our local partner KIPA, who will continue using it to help the island's producers promote their products and grow their digital skills. Thank you to every producer, stakeholder and partner who helped shape DASK.

Product Photography Blog Post

From Counter to Screen

Our Chora workshop is the star of a new post on the PoliRuralPlus blog: “From the Counter to the Customer’s Screen” explores how digital skills and product photography power rural e-commerce, following the island’s producers as they turn their goods into professional online listings. You can read the full article at PoliRuralPlus.eu.

Chora Workshop

Hands-On Workshop in Chora

Local producers and agritourism actors joined us in a community hall in Chora, Kythera, for a hands-on workshop combining onboarding to the live DASK platform with practical product-photography training. Using a softbox and their own goods — Kytherian thyme honey, local wine, craft beer and pastéli — participants turned real island products into credible online listings.

Remote Platform Evaluation

Evaluating the Platform Together

The consortium and local stakeholders met over video conference to review the completed DASK platform end-to-end — now fully bilingual in Greek and English — including the newly integrated Jackdaw GeoAI assistant, which accepts text, voice and photo input. The session paved the way for scaled in-person deployment on the islands.

First Sprint Complete

First Sprint Complete

Our first development sprint has come to a close, delivering the base DASK platform: the foundations of the digital marketplace and training centre that everything to come will build on. With early stakeholder feedback already shaping the product, focus now shifts to integrating the Jackdaw GeoAI assistant and preparing for evaluation with the island community.
